Thread lift
The so-called thread lift (a.k.a. ‘happy lift’, ‘Aptos lift’ or ‘silhouette thread lift’) is a method for facial rejuvenation used to treat mild to moderate wrinkles, which begin to appear naturally between the ages of 25 and 50. A sagging of the soft facial tissue caused by gravity and loss of tone is caused by a remodelling process on the inside of the skin with a change in the supporting structure. The connective tissue becomes unstable, so that the collagen and elastic fibres lose their firmness.
The contours of the neck and face can be rejuvenated by means of a thread lift. Hanging or creased corners of the mouth can be raised, and the areas on the forehead and around the eyes can be smoothed. Having said that, threads can be used for the lifting of many other parts of the body such as the upper arms, thighs and neckline.
The basis of the thread lift is to fix the wrinkled tissue to firmer, deeper skin tissue by means of specially made threads and thus tighten or fill in wrinkles. The suture material used for this today has proved its worth in surgery over many decades. The long-term effect is produced by re-formation of the collagen connective tissue. The procedure is relatively problem-free and has hardly any complications at all, apart from possible local infections. The thread lift has more than one advantage over traditional facelifting: it is a small operation which is much easier to tolerate, and it leaves hardly any scarring at all. However, the chances of success it offers are considerably less good, for which reason it cannot always be a substitute for a neck or cheek lift.
In many cases, it makes good sense to combine a thread lift with treatment with hyaluronic acid, botulinal toxin or skin peeling.
