Your competent consultation at theWolff & Edusei Clinicin Berlin
Clear, individual, and structured – for your safety and peace of mind
At our clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, we place great importance on providing personal, medically sound, and trustworthy consultations. To ensure you feel well cared for from the very beginning, we explain here step by step how your first consultation will proceed – from scheduling the appointment to making your next decision.
1. Preparation and pre-op appointment
To schedule an appointment, it is best to call our clinic and contact our surgery coordinator, Ms. Sinem Sanli, who usually assigns appointments from Monday to Thursday. Of course, all other staff members are also available to assist you, but the final scheduling is carried out by Ms. Sanli.
She will first provide you with the surgery date as well as an appointment for the so-called pre-op consultation, which usually takes place about 4 to 6 weeks before the procedure. This consultation serves to confirm all medical and organizational details.
Please bring all required documents in your surgery folder, fully completed, to this appointment – in particular the treatment agreement, your surgery checklist, and any important medical findings you may not yet have submitted to us. Any open questions can, of course, be clarified during the personal consultation on site.
If a special compression garment is required for the procedure – for example, a compression bra for breast augmentation or breast lift, or a girdle after liposuction or abdominoplasty – it will be measured during the pre-op appointment and ordered for you in your size.
Certain preliminary examinations, such as a breast ultrasound in the context of breast surgery, must be arranged independently – ideally with your gynecologist or with a radiologist specializing in the breast.
The anesthesia consultation will take place in a separate appointment: about one week before the procedure, our anesthesiologist will contact you by phone to discuss your medical history, inform you about fasting times, and explain any further preparation steps if necessary.
2. What you should consider before the day of surgery
Depending on the type and scope of the procedure, different preparations are required. In general, please observe the following instructions:
Medications with a blood-thinning effect as well as certain dietary supplements such as vitamin E should be discontinued at least 14 days before the procedure. Please be sure to coordinate this with your treating physician or general practitioner.
- Shave the planned surgical area and the adjacent skin regions (e.g., the armpits for breast surgery) on the evening before the procedure.
- Avoid makeup, creams, or body lotion if the procedure involves the face or head area. For surgeries on other parts of the body, light makeup is usually not a problem – we will discuss this with you individually in advance.
- Please remove all jewelry and piercings and leave them at home.
- It is best to wear comfortable, dark clothing that is easy to slip on – ideally loose tops with zippers or buttons. Tight clothing or turtlenecks should be avoided.
You will receive a detailed packing list as well as recommendations for medication preparation as part of your surgery planning. If you are unsure whether a particular product, item of clothing, or makeup is permitted, please feel free to ask us – we are happy to provide individual advice.
3. On the day of surgery
On the day of surgery, please arrive at our clinic at the agreed time. Our team will personally welcome you at reception, ask about your fasting period if you are receiving anesthesia, and inquire about your well-being. After a short stay in the waiting area, you will change – depending on the type of procedure – into a surgical gown, a cap, and, if necessary, surgical socks or mesh underwear.
Please understand that surgery times may occasionally be rescheduled at short notice, so we ask that you remain flexible and available even outside the initially agreed admission time.
Please let us know which contact person we should inform for you after the surgery.
Before the procedure, your surgeon, Dr. Andrea Wolff or Dr. Isabel Edusei, will once again take time for a personal conversation, answer any final questions, perform the surgical markings, and, if necessary, prepare photographic documentation.
Afterwards, our anesthesiologist will introduce themselves personally, address any last important matters before your surgery, and insert the intravenous line. Anesthesia will then be initiated in the operating room in a pleasant and calm atmosphere. Many patients find it reassuring to know: you will wake up in exactly the same place where you fell asleep – in familiar surroundings, continuously cared for by our team.
4. After the procedure
After the procedure, you will wake up in the operating room, accompanied by our anesthesia team. During the recovery phase, we will place your compression garment over your bandages. In line with the latest recommendations, we emphasize early mobilization.
As soon as you are responsive and mobile again, you will walk independently, with assistance, to the recovery room, where you can lie down and rest in peace.
We provide drinks and snacks.
In the recovery room, your vital signs will be monitored and your surgical dressing checked. You will usually remain under observation for about one to two hours before being allowed to change.
Your accompanying person will be informed in good time about when to pick you up. During the procedure itself, companions must leave the clinic premises, but they may return after the surgery.
For the journey home, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing. After liposuction or abdominal surgery, wound fluid may drain externally through the drainage. Therefore, choose dark, loose-fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a light top with a zipper or buttons – avoid tight clothing or turtlenecks.
Additionally, towels or absorbent pads can be very helpful.
5. For the first days at home
To ensure you are well prepared after the procedure, you will receive recommendations and prescriptions for medications such as painkillers, disinfectants, and other aids in advance, usually during your pre-op appointment. We recommend purchasing these items at the pharmacy before your surgery date so that everything is ready at home afterward.
Bandaging material is usually not provided, as the first follow-up appointment will take place at our clinic shortly after the procedure. Only in exceptional cases, such as if you are traveling from far away, will we provide the necessary materials.
If you live elsewhere and cannot attend follow-up care directly, please let us know – we will work together to find a suitable solution.
What you should also keep in mind at home:
Regardless of the type of procedure, we recommend taking sufficient time to rest during the first few days. Avoid physical strain, move slowly and carefully, and seek support in your daily activities whenever possible.
For the first six weeks after surgery, you should completely refrain from sports. Heavy lifting or activities that put strain on the surgical area should also be avoided during this time. This will support smooth healing without complications.
After procedures in the facial area, it is advisable to sleep in an elevated position with your upper body slightly raised. Keep your head as upright as possible to help reduce swelling.
Fresh scars are very sensitive to heat and UV radiation. For the first 12 weeks after the procedure, you should consistently avoid direct sun exposure – this also applies to tanning salons. If staying outdoors cannot be avoided, please use a sunblock with a high protection factor. Strong heat exposure, such as sauna visits, steam baths, or hot full baths, should also be avoided during the first three months, as they may impair wound healing and increase the risk of noticeable scarring.
Please wear your compression garment consistently for a period of six weeks – day and night. During the following four weeks, the garment should still be worn during physical activity to optimally support the surgical result.
Personal hygiene is generally possible but should be adapted. At first, careful partial body washing may be necessary, avoiding the treated area. We will discuss individually with you when full showers are permitted again.
Please take your pain medication as discussed with us – if necessary, also preventively. Pain perception is individual, and regular intake helps to avoid unnecessary discomfort.
6. Your aftercare – well supported
Even in the days and weeks following the procedure, we closely monitor your healing process and are personally available for you. The first follow-up appointment usually takes place the very next day. Further check-ups and possible dressing changes will be arranged individually with you – depending on the type and course of the procedure.
If you have any questions or uncertainties after the surgery, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time. Outside our regular office hours, you can reach us within the first 24 hours after the procedure via an emergency number, which we will provide to you in advance.
Our goal is not only to provide you with competent medical treatment but also to accompany you reliably throughout the recovery process – until you feel completely well again.
